Tā Mātou Hoaketanga – Our Function
The principal objective of the Whangaroa Papa Hapū is to operate in a manner that:
- is consistent with tikanga Māori;
- acknowledges the mana of Whangaroa claimants, whānau and hapū, and
- is committed to establishing and maintaining a positive, cooperative and enduring
relationship within its members and with the Whangaroa community.
The Whangaroa Papa Hapū will do this by:
- Actively working together using shared knowledge and expertise;
- Co-operating in partnership with hapū in a spirit of good faith, integrity, honesty, transparency and accountability;
- Enabling and supporting the use of Te Reo and tikanga Māori;
- Acknowledging that the Whangaroa Papa Hapū and its work are evolving;
- Working together to resolve any issues that may arise;
- Facilitating research projects for the benefit of Whangaroa; and
- Maintaining the Whangaroa Papa Hapū library and archives as a research
The Papa Hapū will have such powers as are reasonably necessary for it to carry out its
functions.
Tikanga Whakahaere – Guiding Principles
The Whangaroa Papa Hapū are committed to establishing and maintaining a positive, co-operative and enduring relationship as envisaged by the following shared principles:
1/ Respecting the autonomy of the claimants and their individual mandate roles and responsibilities;
2/ Actively working together using shared knowledge and expertise;
3/ Co-operating in partnership with a spirit of good faith, integrity, honesty, transparency and accountability;
4/ Enabling and supporting the use of Te Reo Māori me ōna tikanga;
5/ Acknowledging that the Whangaroa Papa Hapū is evolving;
6/ The Whangaroa Papa Hapū will endeavour to work together to resolve any issues that may arise and requiring logistical assistance in the preparation, management and presentation of submissions in the Stage Two Hearings.
